Hydro: Q2 2025 progress report

The Hydro team received funding in January. This is our second quarterly report and you can find the first one here . Since April, we’ve been sharing weekly product updates in our Telegram channel and weekly growth reports with Interchain Labs. Real-time reporting is available on our /metrics page. Below is also a top-line summary: Value of deployments | 1,683,000 ATOM | Number of deployments | 20 | Number of bids | 28 | Number of protocols | 12 | These numbers only include 3 rounds (6 to 8) These figures have remained steady over the last few rounds. We believe they set a baseline for what Hydro is able to generate under difficult conditions (self-imposed low risk tolerance, limited economic activity in Cosmos and challenging market conditions). That said, the latest round (8) had 13 bids, surpassing our previous record of 12 bids achieved in round 5. Just want to drop my experience of Hydro in here as both a hydro committee member and as a bidder (via Stride and hopefully soon via Magma / Mars vaults). TLDR: They’ve done a phenomenal job growing hydro so far! As a Committee Member The role of the committee is to manage various workflows for hydro as well as oversee the hydro team to ensure the community’s ATOM isn’t being wasted / put at risk. From that perspective, I’ve found the hydro team to be incredibly well organized. You kinda have to be in order to keep hydro running so well. Every month, the committee signs upwards of 40-50 transactions (over 60 in June) in order to keep hydro running properly and to manage all of the deployments. The hydro team does a great job of creating these transactions and getting signatures from the committee. If you’ve ever been on a multisig you know that this process can be like herding cats even for just a couple signatures a month, let alone 50+. We get weekly updates on ongoing product development and BD efforts. The team is always working to build out new features to increase Hydro’s adoption and grow bid sizes. Sizing up the current Hydro team to rebuild Hydro in Solidity and migrate the core contracts to the upcoming Hub EVM platform in parallel. We would also be able to integrate all of Hydro’s features with Eureka.

Thanks for the solid update. Out of curiosity, it is interesting that it only costs 20k more to migrate the contracts to the EVM. Is this a pretty simple conversion? Any established tools to move CosmWasm → EVM automatically? Seems with creation and testing it would take a good bit of dev time.

The good thing is that we now have a solid technical architecture in place. Since we’ve already done that work for CW contracts, it will greatly speed up the Solidity implementation.

We generally intend on delivering all the items mentioned, but the timeline depends on resourcing. More budget would let us bring more senior engineers who can take ownership of topics like the migration.

I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the level of engagement and progress. The activity and engagement from the community on the telegram is also very good to see.

Appreciate the update, always good to see clear communication and steady progress.

Mars has participated in several Hydro rounds, primarily to source ATOM liquidity for lending. The experience has been smooth each time, the bidding process is straightforward, timelines are clear, and the Hydro team has been quick and helpful to respond when questions came up.

Hydro’s clearly becoming a key piece of infrastructure for capital coordination/deployment in Cosmos. Looking forward to seeing how it evolves and continuing to work together in future rounds.

Thanks @Thyborg for the clear quarterly report. We’ve seen some feedback from Hydro bidders, and a committee member. Now, I’d also like to add some feedback from a Hydro grantee (Moonkitt has been contracted to work on Current, the NFT Marketplace for Hydro lockups), and an active user. As others have pointed out, working with Hydro team has also only been positive for Moonkitt: • they were always available when needed, and provided quick feedback on any questions • they always made sure that we had all updated information to deliver the required features • they knew what they wanted, and were always fair with the code reviews All the above were a tremendous help for us to meet the required deadlines on the different milestones for Current, and I can’t wait for everyone to experience the new Marketplace. Additionally, as an avid user of the Hydro platform, it’s also always been a pleasure to discover new projects (bidders), to try strategies, to test products, and to interact with the Hydro community. I have been actively bidding in recent rounds & good to see the team continuing to build tools like Stream, Riptide, Vortex, Current, Floodgate & more. So, happy about what they are evolving into.

I agree with the idea of pulling grant contributors in-house. makes ops cleaner & easier to track, so more efficient. Very curious to see how riptide + inflow plays out next .. especially if it can help drive real yield & usage .
